Following the visits of our local MP, Edward Timpson and the CEO of Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC), we have had very productive meetings with our CWaC representative as we collectively move towards an agreed way forward for the acquisition of the Golden Lion. We are currently obtaining up to date valuations of the property, taking into account the building’s continuing deterioration and changes in the hospitality market. Members of the Golden Lion committee have had several successful meetings recently. We were very pleased to welcome our local MP, Edward Timpson to the village and to show him the Golden Lion pub, which he recalls frequenting in the past. The Ashton Hayes Community Hub Committee have been busy despite the inevitable restrictions caused by the pandemic. When Covid restrictions began to be lifted in July last year we were able to pick up with Cheshire West and Chester Council regarding our request for a Compulsory Purchase Order on the pub but unfortunately another lockdown was put in place before much progress could be made. You may have noticed that sold signs have gone up at the pub. However, we have been advised by the estate agent that the pub has not been sold and the signs should be coming down soon. We will continue to keep you updated with progress as it happens.

The Ashton Hayes Community Hub Committee are pleased to announce that Cheshire West & Chester Council have approved our application to list The Golden Lion as an Asset of Community Value.
