Christmas Event 2024

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us at our Christmas event at the pub on 22nd December. To our amazing volunteers who worked tirelessly and to all the patrons who came together to celebrate our shared vision for the community pub – we couldn’t have done it without you. It was fantastic to see so many of you coming together, exploring the renovations, and sharing your excitement about the future of this special space. This pub truly belongs to all of us, and with your continued support, it’s becoming something extraordinary. Let’s keep the momentum going as we […]

Article in The Standard

The following article was printed in The Standard on 23rd December: The Standard Article A quick clarification on the timelines for our opening. We are aiming to be opening around Easter 2025. We have had an extension to our Community Ownership Fund commitments, and this is indeed out until June 2025. We are confident that we will have a tenant in place, have completed the full refurbishment and be welcoming customers back to our award winning community project and fabulous new village pub and hub at Easter. We are still fundraising and do have a current short fall for the […]

Share Offer Extension to June 2025

The refurbishment works are progressing well with all of the building’s structural work completed as of the end of November 2024. To get to this stage has been a huge undertaking though not without the odd unexpected challenge. The main fabric of the original building is constructed from sandstone, which has been in place for hundreds of years. The mud, straw, and horsehair holding much of it together do not fare well over such extended periods! As a result, and with regularity, every time we remove some plaster or lift a piece of timber there is another cracked wall or […]

Christmas Event 2024

You are invited to a Christmas celebration at The Golden Lion, Ashton Hayes. The event will take place on Sunday 22nd December between 12pm and 2pm and we will be serving mulled wine, Weetwood beer, hot chocolate and mince pies. Hopefully, numbers permitting, you will be able to have a quick look inside at the progress made so far with the help of our wonderful volunteers. Parking will be very limited and there are hazards on the car park so please walk if at all possible and enter the courtyard at the back of the pub via the car park. Children are welcome […]

Progress Update 25 11 24

The refurbishment works are progressing well with all of the building’s structural work completed. As we run up to Christmas, we will have the floors laid, first fix of the electrics and plumbing concluded, the walls insulated and prepared for plaster boarding and skimming. To get the refurbishment project to this stage has been a huge undertaking though not without the odd unexpected challenge. The main fabric of the original building is constructed from sandstone, which has been in place for hundreds of years. Progress Update 09 11 24

We have again made great progress with the help of our brilliant volunteers. The electric, plumbing and insulation works continue but the main change is the completion of the courtyard area and pathway.           The pathway connects the carpark to Kelsall Road near the phonebox, this provide plenty of parking and safe access to the Community Shop and Post Office. The carpark is not yet in use but we will let you know when it is safe to use the car park and pathway. On Saturday we had a small group of volunteers in to clear the […]
